The Roads Department, under the coordination of the Ministry of Infrastructure, implements Georgia’s key road infrastructure development projects and carries out maintenance activities on roads of international and domestic importance.

At present, the road network under the responsibility of the Department comprises 1,517 km of roads of international importance and 5,570 km of roads of national importance.

Within the international road network, the E60 (Poti–Tbilisi–Red Bridge) and E70 (Poti–Batumi–Sarpi) transit highways are characterized by particularly high traffic volumes.

Another key route is the E117 European route, which forms part of the North–South Corridor and includes the Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Larsi road of international importance.

The Roads Department is also actively developing the road network in the Kakheti direction.
